Where to eat in KL: SUKI-YA Eat all you can sukiyaki and shabu shabu

SUKI-YA outlet at MYTOWN Mall Cheras KL
Hello guys! Today I'll be reviewing my dining experience at SUKI-YA in KL. Previously, I have been writing a series on Cafe Hopping in Ipoh (you can check them out by clicking on this link) and this time I'll be bringing you guys around and reviewing nice places to eat in KL. The photos in this post are going to make your mouth water, so be prepared to feel really hungry after reading this entry! Are you ready? Let's go!

What is SUKI-YA? SUKI-YA is a Japanese restaurant that offers "eat all you can sukiyaki and shabu shabu". In other words, customers are given FREE FLOW of freshly sliced meat (choice of beef, lamb or chicken) eaten with 4 choices of popular soup bases. Not only that, customers can enjoy a wide variety of fresh vegetables and premium pasteurized eggs at the vegetable bar. Choose from four types of shabu shabu sauces which are Gomatare (sesame sauce), Ponzu (shoyu with vinegar), Misotare (bean paste sauce) or you can even create your own dipping sauce.

There are four types of soups as I have mentioned earlier and they are:

  • Shabu shabu: Low calories konbu broth where you dip the thin sliced of meat and cook for a few seconds
  • Sukiyaki: Sweetened soy-sauce broth
  • Miso: Fermented soy bean soup
  • Kimuchi: Mild spicy soup with Kimchi base

Looks so appetizing, isn't it?

We went for the Sukiyaki and Miso soup base. Sukiyaki was definitely my family favorite and all of us couldn't stop dipping our meat slices into it. We love that the beef and lamb meat slices complement the sweet soy sauce broth really well and didn't require any further dipping into their special sauces because those meat were already too good to be eaten on their own. If you don't like your broth sweetened, perhaps you can go for a lighter soup base such as Shabu shabu or Miso.

HOW TO EAT:
  1. Fill your pot with broth and bring it to a boil.
  2. Add vegetables, onion or leek to add in flavor.
  3. Dip the thinly sliced meat into broth (back and forth). Once it changes color, it is ready to eat.
  4. You may also add in udon to the stock.
  5. Dip cooked meat into raw egg or special sauces and enjoy!

Choose from a wide variety of fresh greens and other steamboat ingredients
If you love veggies, you're going to love their vegetable bar. The bar is freshly stocked with vegetables such as carrots, lettuces, radish, mushroom, cherry tomatoes, and corns. Besides, you can choose to cook them with premium steamboat ingredients such as cocktail sausages, beef meatballs (one of the best I have ever eaten, it's so unique because the meatball is filled with soup and beef paste), tofu, crabstick meat and many others.

Fresh sushi and premium pasteurized eggs

A closer look at the sushi. There's avocado and cheese roll and sushi like tamago and ebiko.

While you wait for your meat and vegetables to be cooked, enjoy a few pieces of delectable sushi served at the sauce counter. Also, SUKI-YA only serves fresh premium pasteurized eggs. To enjoy, simply beat the raw egg and dip your cooked thin slices of meat into it. It helps to take away some heat from your ingredients before eating it and prevent scalding your tongue.

Freshly sliced beef and lamb meat

Don't hesitate to ask refills for the meat because it is "eat all you can". The meat are not served or provided at the counter. You have to request for the number of trays of your meat choices to the staff. Also, you have to request for tea refills (FREE FLOW only for hot or iced barley tea). Feel free to ask the staff for meat and drink refills because you're paying 10% of service charge.

Our third refill of meat HAHA
I must say that I enjoyed the beef meat the most because it was so good eaten with the sweet sukiyaki broth. The lamb meat and chicken slices are not bad too. All the meat slices were really fresh. SUKI-YA is pork free and their meat suppliers are halal certified.

Soft serve machine

Here comes the fun part after all the boiling and dipping! SUKI-YA provides a soft serve machine that allows you to dispense your own green tea or chocolate soft serve. YAY! You may opt for the green tea, chocolate or even mixed ice cream served on a cone or cup and eat it with various toppings.

Yummy! Mixed ice cream on a cone and green tea ice cream in a cup.

Only at SUKI-YA, you get to eat these soft serve as much as you can. No one is going to stop you!

The perfect place for your family to get together to enjoy a healthy and low calorie Japanese hotpot (kids friendly too). SUKI-YA too serves ala carte menu ranging from tofu to salmon sashimi. All SUKI-YA restaurants are located in shopping malls for your convenience and they have outlets in MYTOWN, Pavilion, IPC Shopping Centre and a few other in Klang Valley. Final Thoughts:
The meats were very fresh and I love their premium steamboat ingredients (definitely different from other shabu shabu restaurants). They were very generous with their meats and you can eat any of your meat choices as much as you want. You have four tasty soup to select from and creamy Japanese green tea and chocolate soft serve. However, I wished I could refill the drinks on my own because it is quite a hassle to constantly ask the staff for refill. Anyway, it's worth to try at least once because there is nothing to lose.

So there you have it. Are you going to visit any SUKI-YA outlet soon? Let me know in the comments below. See you in my next post on "Where to eat in KL" series. Click here to read about my afternoon tea experience at the 2OX KL. Have a nice day!
